Welcome to the One Cornwall One Planet website

One Cornwall One Planet is a group of people who are concerned about climate change and peak oil.

The One Cornwall One Planet group was set up with the aim of making sure that the new One Cornwall Council starts to address the urgent problems that we face from these environmental and resource pressures. Some of us are independent candidates, some are members of political parties: we are working together because of our shared concerns and philosophy. We are all active in other groups such as Groundswell and Transition Towns.

Our political campaign started only a few months before the unitary council elections on 4 June 2009. We always knew that getting anyone elected from our group would be a long shot; but we felt that we had at least to try. See Cornwall Council elections for more details of the campaign.

In the event, one candidate, Bob Egerton, the One Cornwall One Planet candidate in Probus Division, was elected to Cornwall Council on 4 June 2009. He took his seat as an Independent councillor. He deliberately chose not to join the 31 other councillors who formed a council group under the title of "independents" because the range of views and policies across that group are wide and many of the councillors in that group will not be sympathetic to the views and policies of One Cornwall One Planet. Bob is, therefore, the only stand alone member of the Council.
